Student Trainee (Public Affairs) - R5

This is an office-centered position*--you must physically report to one of the duty stations stated in this announcement on a regular basis (location TBD after candidate selected).

Duties

At the GS-4 grade level, you will:

  • Carry out developmental work by writing information about regional environmental programs.
  • Coordinate with staff specific to a particular program area (e.g. water, air superfund, etc.) to obtain information on regional activities.
  • Develop written materials as requested by senior Public Affairs Specialists such as routine press releases, fact sheets, news stories, bibliographies, and correspondence.
  • Research and report on topics for publication such as news or feature articles. Attend meetings and conferences to learn and gather information about EPA regulations, policies, programs, and activities.

At the GS-5 grade level, you will:

  • Assists senior specialists in conducting routine communication and program functions.
  • Coordinate with staff specific to a particular program area (e.g., water, air superfund, etc.) to obtain information on regional activities.
  • Research legal and regulatory material to obtain factual information and/or interpretation for use by the supervisor or co-workers.
  • Assists with planning, preparing materials, promotional and organizing collaborative partners as needed for meetings, programs, and special events.
