Student Volunteer Intern – Office of the Chief Information Officer

This internship is in partnership with the U.S Department of Energy (DOE) and ABPA.

Position Number:  Student Volunteer Intern

Location: Germantown, Maryland

Internship Period: Summer Term of 10 weeks (May – August)

Overview:
This position is located in the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Enterprise Operations and Shared Services, Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). The OCIO is responsible for advancing the Department’s missions through policy, standards, and services that meet mission requirements, balance risk and innovation, and set clear performance goals and expectations for the enterprise information ecosystem. The OCIO strives to continually improve the provision of information technology (IT) services and strengthen the Department’s cybersecurity posture to enable its customers to perform the Department’s mission while providing exemplary stewardship of taxpayer dollars through effective, efficient, and innovative management.

Intern assignments will include:
This exciting position presents opportunities to work in an organization at the forefront of Cybersecurity and IT modernization within a Cabinet-level government agency.  

Specific duties will be dependent upon needs that arise during the internship period as well as on the selected applicant’s interests and expertise. Activities may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Providing support for IT services provided by the Enterprise Operations & Shared Services initiatives in the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) such as networking, desktop and data center services, and PKI services.  
  • Providing support for cybersecurity operations and Security Operations Center (SOC) services including network security, threat detection and forensic analysis, incident response, vulnerability management, and continuous monitoring.
  • Project support for a number of IT modernization initiatives underway and planned, including enterprise email to the cloud, desktop computing upgrades, implementation of new cloud services such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure, and deployment of new networking and secure mobility solutions.
  • Ad-Hoc support to the Deputy CIO, Enterprise Operations and Shared Services
