Communications and Constituent Services Specialist

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), Office of Communications and Constituent Services is seeking an experienced professional to provide communications support to the Office of Communications and Constituent Services to include: developing VDOE’s social media content and responding to inquiries from constituents to confidentially provide responses with timely, accurate information and materials on behalf of the Superintendent, the Secretary of Education, the Board of Education, and the Virginia Department of Education on K-12 education issues and policies. The incumbent will assist with writing and copy editing content for use across multiple agency platforms and managing requests for agency promotional items.
 
SEEKING APPLICANTS WITH THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

▪         Highly effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write grammatically and in Associated Press style.
▪         Ability to write talking points, speeches as well as content for presentations and website.
▪         Demonstrate the ability to create and schedule social media content to promote the initiatives and new stories.
▪         Experience in managing various social media platforms to include Twitter, Facebook, Hootsuite, and YouTube.
▪         Considerable knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methodologies relative to resolving complaints, questions and concerns from constituents.
▪         Demonstrate the ability to deal with sensitive and difficult situations and information; in interpersonal problem-solving, decision-making and leadership skills.
▪         Demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
▪         Proficiency and experience in the use of Google Suite and Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
▪         Knowledge of local, state and federal roles in public school governance and policy.
▪         Demonstrate the ability to work independently to resolve problems and carry out assignments.
▪         Experience and demonstrated success in written and oral communications, short-and long-range planning, editing, collaboration, resolving conflict and working with education and community organizations and agencies.
▪         Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in education, mass communications or related field preferred and experience in public relations, communications, education or government.
