The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) seeks a motivated, detail oriented, and energetic individual for a paid legislative internship in their Arlington, VA office.

The Legislative Affairs Intern will work with the Associate Director to compile, review, analyze and maintain information on state legislative issues relevant to the field of infection prevention and keep that information current on the organization’s website. S/he will also conduct research to promote the importance of certification in support of APIC’s state campaign.

The employee will help with the onboarding process of new Chapter Legislative Representatives (CLR), which includes creation/distribution of materials about the role of CLR, ensuring CLRs receive their state legislative reports, and answering inquiries when the Associate Director is unavailable.

The Legislative Affairs Intern will help coordinate meetings between APIC members and policymakers to support the adoption or implementation of APIC initiatives.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Review and analyze state legislation impacting the infection prevention profession and updating APIC Chapter Legislative Representatives (CLRs) as necessary.
  • Assist in onboarding process of new CLRs: including entering new CLRs into state legislative tracking system, APIC community, and Action eList.
  • Create and distribute training materials for CLRs on their roles and responsibilities.
  • Conduct legislative research for the Public Policy Department.
  • Maintain timely communication with members via e-mail, the APIC website and other in-house communication vehicles.
  • Assist in logistics of member lobby days in state legislatures and Congress.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualified applicants should have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, possess strong writing skills, and demonstrate a solid work ethic. The selected candidate is expected to be in office 20 hours per week until the position expires on June 30.
