Administration and Office Support Student Summer Trainee

Student Trainee – Full Time GS-5-6 ($39,291 - $56,939/yearly)
This Pathways Student Intern position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, throughout the many offices in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), Washington, DC. ** This position is a Summer Internship beginning on May 26, 2020 and concluding on August 29, 2020.







Responsibilities

As a Student Trainee (Mission Support) in the Pathways Program, you will perform a variety of administrative and technical assignments such as:Collecting and compiling information for such areas as budget, procurement, human resources, etc.Updating information on spreadsheets and other office documents;Processes incoming and outgoing mail, FedEx and UPS packages; and Maintaining office records, files and supplies; and Responding to routine questions concerning administrative procedures and requirements.

o You must successfully pass a background investigation. This may include a credit check, a review of financial issues, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs.
o Selective Service registration required.
o One-year probationary period may be required.
o A pre-employment drug test will be required.
o If you receive a conditional offer of employment for this position, you will be required to complete an Optional Form 306, Declaration for Federal Employment, and to sign and certify the accuracy of all information in your application.

o All Federal employees are required to have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit to a financial institution of their choosing.

o Pathways Participant Agreement: All Student Interns are required to sign the Pathways Program Participant Agreement which outlines program requirements.
Qualifications
BASIC ELIGIBILITY:
Pathways Internship Program candidates must meet Basic Eligibility requirements under the ICE Pathways Program. Specifically, you must:
o Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment on a half to full-time basis, in a qualifying educational institution, pursuing a degree or certificate.
o Maintain good academic standing throughout the entire internship appointment. Good academic standing is defined by the school, generally at least a 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) for undergraduate programs (cumulative; no rounding) and a 3.0 GPA for advanced degree programs.
o Must be 16 years or older at the time of appointment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-05: You qualify at the GS-05 level if you possess two (2) years of general experience or one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:
o Preparing, maintaining, and submitting statistical and required reports to supervisor.
o Referring inquiries regarding specific information systems or actions to the appropriate specialist.
o Maintaining already established office files and/or databases AND enrolled at least half-time in an accredited institution.
OR

You may also substitute successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a Bachelor's degree, in an accredited college or university AND enrolled at least half-time in an accredited institution.

GS-6: You qualify for the GS-06 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as:
o Preparing, receiving, reviewing, and verifying documents
o Compiling statistical data
o The production of internal management reports
o Assisting higher graded employees with administrative support, resource planning, and budget and financial management
o Developing presentations and reports
