Land Surveyor, Cartographic Technician (Summer)

Paid Internship -- (Stipend, housing & transportation included)

Job Title: Land Surveyor, Cartographic Technician 

Job responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
  • Measure distances and angles between points on, above, and below the Earth’s surface
  • Research land records, survey records, and land titles
  • Look for evidence of previous boundaries to determine where boundary lines are located
  • Record the results of surveying and verify the accuracy of data
  • Prepare plots, maps, and reports
  • Present findings to clients and government agencies
  • Establish official land and water boundaries for deeds, leases, and other legal documents and testify in court regarding survey work

Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Green Card Holder 
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license
  • The intern must be currently enrolled in an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree program or a recent graduate.
  • Intern must be able to hike in flat to moderately steep to steep terrain with survey equipment.
  • The intern will also be required to operate 4WD vehicles (trucks and UTV’s) after initial training.
  • Interns must be able to read/analyze historical data to develop logical search areas in the field and describe recovered evidence.
  • Familiarity with the public land survey system (PLSS), GIS, orienteering, and surveying are desirable skills, but not required. 
  • Interns must be able to generate and manage digital data.

Preferred Knowledge & Skills
Natural Sciences degree programs; Civil Engineering, Geology, Geography, Cartography, Natural Resources, and Surveying. Park/Refuge/Monument Management and Administration, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Policy and Management, Environmental/Civil Engineering, historical and Cultural Resources Management, Business Management and Administration, Public Policy/Administration and Management, Resource Protection.
