Criminal Justice Teacher

Job Title:      Criminal Justice Teacher 
 
School:         Appoquinimink High School and Middletown High School
                                                                                                                                   
Supervisor:  Principal or Assistant Principal
 

Salary:  Salary is calculated in accordance with the verified educational level and work experience of the selected candidate and in accordance with the district’s Teacher Salary Scale. 
 
Terms of Employment
Qualifications:  
 
  • Must be eligible for State of Delaware Certification as a Skilled and Technical Sciences Teacher (DE Reg 1559)
  • Minimum of six (6) years of work experience in an area related to the Criminal Justice and Legal Issues Pathway and Skilled and Technical Science specific career area, two (2) of which must be within the last five (5) years; or a minimum of six (6) years of work experience by teaching in or direct supervision of educators in an area related to the Skilled and Technical Sciences specific career area, two (2) of which must be within the last five (5) years.
  • Preference may be given to a candidate that holds Special Education Certification.
  • Knowledge of Delaware State Content Standards, Assessment & Accountability.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Knowledge of best practices.
  • Criminal background check and Tuberculin testing.
 
Licensure and Certification:
 
Must meet Delaware requirements for teaching licensure and subject area certification(s) in accordance with Delaware Professional Standards Board regulations (14 DE Admin. Code 1500).
 
Summary:
The Criminal Justice Teacher is to design, implement, and assess lessons which will increase student achievement. The teacher must also maintain a positive classroom environment. The teacher shall enforce the state rules, regulations, and district policies to ensure the operation of the educational program.
 
 
  • Responsibilities and Duties:Provides the appropriate educational opportunities and instruction for each student, according to his/her needs and abilities.
  • Prepare in advance appropriate lesson plan, which match district curriculum.
  • Keep accurate records, tests, reports, etc. as required by Delaware Statutes and policies, Federal Regulations, and School Board Policy to demonstrate student performance.
 
  • Establish and maintain good rapport and communication with students, school personnel and parents.
  • Works with fellow teachers in planning instruction.
  • Establishes and maintains a classroom atmosphere conducive to teaching and learning.
  • Plans and uses classroom time effectively.
  • Implements School Board and school based policies and procedures in order to uphold school regulations.
  • Works closely with guidance/special education personnel/outside resources to assist students with special needs.
  • Integrates technology in instruction.
  • Works continuously toward self-improvement through the active pursuit of professional development activities.
  • Participates in district and school level committees designed to foster continuing improvement and growth.
  • Communicates curriculum and student-related information effectively in oral and written form.
  • Participate in all meetings (IEP, conferences, etc.).
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.
 

Terms of Employment: 

 
  • This is a full-time ten-month position.
 
  • Successful completion of Criminal Background Check, Tuberculosis Test (PPD), and Child Protection Registry Clearance must be completed prior to start of employment.

  • Use eSchoolPLUS (pupil accounting software) for student attendance and grades.
  • Proficient use of technology including Microsoft Office applications and educational software.
