Student Intern - For Security Operations Office, Chief of Staff, Executive Correspondence at TSA, DHS

The Security Operations (SO) Office at TSA overseas operations at all federalized airports across the country. The Chief of Staff, Executive Correspondence Branch is looking for an intern for Fall 2020 and possibly thru spring 2021. This opportunity is for an unpaid internship meant to provide valuable, relevant, and developmental experience.

Academic Major/Skills Desired:
  • All students with an interest in writing, literature, public administration, business administration, law, homeland security, criminal justice, political science, or any other majors.
  • Must possess strong writing skills, research and analytical skills, great work ethic, and desire to learn.

The intern will be working alongside senior federal staff and assisting with the following duties.

  •  Draft and coordinate with program offices agency responses to inquiries from Transportation Stakeholders, Congressional representatives, and the public. 
  • Review and comment on proposed legislation, hearing statements, government reports, congressional questions for the record, internal agency policy memos, briefing materials, talking points, and presentations. 
  • Research and analyze legislation, internal agency policies, trending issues and concerns of industry and the general public. Advanced writing and editing skills required in a wide range of documents such as correspondence, reports, issues and/or position papers, and ability to express facts and ideas in a clear, organized, convincing manner using stock and unique language. 
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to include staff from other federal offices or agencies, subject matter experts both within and outside of the agency, employees from field locations, congressional and industry liaison staff, and agency leaders and their staff.

This is an unpaid student volunteer intern position

CURRENTLY DUE TO COVID 19 THIS IS A VIRTUAL INTERNSHIP.
Under regular circumstances, this position would be at TSA headquarters in Virginia.

Requirements:  If selected for the internship, perspective interns must: 1) Successfully complete background check, fingerprinting process, and internship forms; the background check process can take several weeks therefore it’s important to submit all paperwork in a timely manner 2) Provide latest official transcripts (min. GPA 2.5 or above) as proof of being current students (recent graduates are only eligible if they are continuing in another degree program during Fall 2020 semester and can provide proof of enrollment)
