Advocacy Intern

The Global Liver Institute (GLI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based out of Washington, D.C. Our mission is to improve the lives of individuals and families impacted by liver disease through promoting innovation, encouraging collaboration, and scaling optimal approaches to help eradicate liver diseases. We believe that collaborating with the medical and advocacy communities, and partners worldwide, we will achieve our vision for liver health to take its proper place on the global public health agenda consistent with its prevalence and impact.

Position Summary: The Advocacy Intern will work closely with the Program Director of GLI’s Advanced Advocacy Academy (A3), a program that connects liver patients, caregivers, and professionals with the information, skills, and opportunities that they need to effectively advocate for liver health. The Advocacy Intern will help develop content for A3 2021, while engaging with liver advocates, and supporting advocacy engagement initiatives across GLI programs. 

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in developing a virtual experience for A3 2020, including contribution to educational materials and activities, virtual discussions, and expert-led sessions 
  • Collaborate with experts in a variety of advocacy topics including digital health, clinical trials, policy, and media
  • Conduct research on current patient advocacy opportunities and engage GLI’s core patient advocate community
  • Support patient advocacy engagement initiatives in GLI’s NASH, Liver Cancers, Policy, and Communications programs

Candidate Specification:
  • Knowledge and/or experience with virtual learning and remote work 
  • Fluency in Microsoft and Google Applications 
  • Passion for nonprofits and health advocacy
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with individuals from cultural and diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent team player with the ability to work independently and in collaboration with colleagues at all levels across the team and with external stakeholders
  • Superior organization and leadership abilities
