Overview

Lovelace Biomedical, a not for profit research center dedicated to the advancement of human health located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a Research Associate within the Pathology group.
 
The Research Associate will be responsible for ensuring that the technical aspects of pathology related portions of studies are conducted according to best practices under the guidance of Pathologists. Will participate in laboratory operations and training, perform necropsies, and ensure consistency in techniques, procedures and documentation across studies and technicians. Will generate pathology related data outputs for analysis, perform analyses and generate figures as well as participate in reporting (including proofreading and Quality Control, figure incorporation, and writing reports and/or portions of reports), and perform all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned. 
 
Serves as a liaison between Pathologists and Necropsy/Trim/Histology staff, in life staff, and Study Directors.
 

Qualifications

Master's degree in a scientific area such as Biology, animal husbandry or related field and two (2) years of directly related experience; or equivalent combination of related education training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the pathology aspects of animal studies.
 
The position will require the ability to use a variety of software programs for data collection and analysis. Will require an understanding of a broad range of pathology/histology techniques. Excellent communication skills and ability to interface with other staff and technicians to accomplish multiple tasks. Coordination, scheduling and cross training between various groups will be required.
 
Candidate must have a demonstrated understanding of research methodology, principles and procedures. Ability to exercise good judgement in adjusting variables and correcting experimental irregularities.  Work must meet stringent standards of accuracy and precision. Must have the ability to successfully perform a variety of laboratory procedures using standard laboratory equipment and instruments.  Must have the ability to gather, analyze and report data. Ability to interface with other staff in other work areas to accomplish multiple tasks.
 
Requires strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, as well as the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.
 
Must be able to safely and properly handle laboratory materials and specimens as well as be able to follow detailed procedures and instructions and use prescribed sterile procedures.
 
This position may involve work inside the ABSL3 facility which may require vaccinations/immunizations. Candidates must be able to wear a respirator. A Post-offer physical and background check are required. Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.


Preferred/Additional Qualifications

Supervisory experience and/or experience working in a GLP environment, biocontainment, and/or with hazardous materials (radiological and chemical) is preferred.

Salary

Salary is commensurate with experience.
