Stop Loss Administration Intern

CareFirst runs a year-round internship program. The ideal candidate is someone who can commit to work throughout the year – part-time up to 15-20 hours in the Spring/Fall AND full-time 40 hours in the Summer.
This internship position resides within the Specialty Business Unit at CareFirst where you will be an integral member of the team. This team is responsible CareFirst’s Specialty Business lines, including Dental, Vision, Stop Loss, Wellness, and Pharmacy. This position will assist in the Stop Loss Department within the Specialty Business Unit.
This position may include the following duties:
  • Learn and understand insurance products in-depth.
  • Use your analytical skills to present findings and outline client reports (pivot tables, visualizations, narrative summaries)
  • Learn and understand the business processes of stop loss insurance, including claims, reporting, and marketing.
  • Learn and become a competent user of administrative platforms to include Salesforce and LuminX.
  • Evaluate competitor offerings and consumer preferences to evaluate potential new product offerings.
  • Assess value and performance of existing business relationships and vendor contracts.
  • Formulate excel spreadsheets and calculate comparisons for departmental analysis and coordinate projects.
  • Assist with development and fulfillment of departmental reporting.
  • Support departmental projects and initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must be a student enrolled in an accredited College or University at either the Junior or Senior level for undergraduate students; graduate level students will be considered
  • Target Majors: Healthcare Management, Public Health, Marketing, Project Management and/or Business-related studies
  • GPA: 3.25 or above
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong Analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Willingness to work as part of a team as well as independently
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products, (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) and the Internet

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The associate is primarily seated while performing the duties of the position. Occasional walking or standing is required. The hands are regularly used to write, type, key and handle or feel small controls and objects. The associate must frequently talk and hear. Weights up to 25 pounds are occasionally lifted.
