2021 Experiential Internship, Mass Spectrometrist

The small molecules mass spectrometry team within the predictive stability and structural elucidation group supports the identification of low-level unknown compounds in development pipeline. The team utilizes high resolution accurate-mass mass spectrometry to elucidate chemical structures and solve complex scientific questions related to molecules of pharmaceutical interest. The goal of this internship is to evaluate the potential application of gas phase ion/molecule reactions to characterize potentially mutagenic impurities in process development. The intern will explore innovative scientific approaches to support the development of mass spectrometry techniques to characterize potentially mutagenic compounds. Additionally, the intern will utilize computational approaches to understand the gas phase fragmentation mechanism of unknowns in development pipeline.
