2021-2022 Virtual Student Federal Service (VSFS) Internship

The Virtual Student Federal Service (VSFS) is the world’s longest-running remote internship program! Since 2009, nearly 10,000 U.S. citizen college students have worked on projects during their academic year. There will be a record 950+ virtual internships for students during the 2021-2022 school year! Our 50 participating federal agencies plan to work with 3,000+ interns.

VSFS is a nine-month internship program open to U.S. citizens who are high school graduates and who are enrolled in a higher education program at the time of their application.  Because the program is virtual, students can be enrolled in school anywhere in the world! Participants can be half-time or full-time students in undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate certificate or degree programs. Half-time is as defined by your institution.

There are opportunities for all majors. The time commitment is about 10 hours per week from September to May. Internships are unpaid but may be eligible for course credit. Speak with your guidance counselor regarding course credit.

Students #ApplyinJuly. Start with this USAJobs vacancy announcement.  You will build a federal profile and federal resume using the online resume builder tool. Uploaded resumes are not accepted. Uploading transcripts is optional. Your statement of interest, the most important part of the application package, is where you express your enthusiasm for all the projects that are of interest. If you apply to three projects, you'll want to address why each of the three projects interests you. It will be one text box, but you can cover each project in a separate paragraph or two. The statement of interest is not an attachment or uploaded. The character count is 3,500. For step-by-step instructions for how to apply, click hereCheck out a short video about "How to #ApplyinJuly” for a VSFS internship.
