Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) has an exciting opportunity for engaging and savvy college students to join our Washington, D.C. team for the Fall 2021 internship session. Responsibilities include attending legislative briefings/hearings, assisting front office and legislative staff with research and drafting documents. This position requires outstanding organizational abilities, strong communication skills, attention to detail, poise, and flexibility. Motivated, hard-working, and professional applicants are encouraged to apply. The application will include a cover letter, resume, professional references, and a short writing sample. We are monitoring the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, at this time our internship will be in person, however we will update applicants should this change.

The office will offer a stipend to individuals who have a financial need. Examples of factors the office will consider relevant in determining financial need include, but are not necessarily limited to, 1) Pell Grant eligibility, 2) Being claimed as a dependent for the purpose of the Earned Income Tax Credit, 3) Proximity to the federal poverty line, 4) Anticipated student loan debt, 5) Access, or lack thereof, to other sources of income subsidization. The office does not want financial issues to be a barrier to an internship and will therefore weigh heavily those applicants who need to be compensated in order to accept an internship.

Requirements to be considered for a Washington, D.C. internship:
  • Resume with 2 professional references
  • Cover Letter
  • Professional Writing Sample (2-3 pages) or Supplemental Stipend Essay
