Intern, Human Resources

We are seeking a HR Intern for the Summer 2022. This person will support various human resources initiatives with emphasis on an upcoming Management Retreat. The intern will support with planning to ensure the event is thoughtful and organized. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in HR, particularly workplace training, professional development, and performance management.

The internship period is early June through August 2022. The internship pays $15 USD per hour. The internship is part-time (2 days or 14 hours per week). Our ideal candidates are based in the NYC area and able to work from the office periodically. COVID-19 vaccines are required for all US-based personnel, except for in the case of approved medical or religious exemptions.

About Internships at Smile Train
Smile Train is committed to offering interns an opportunity to learn how an international non-profit works in practice. All interns are invited to attend regular information sessions, each led by a different member of our team. In addition, each intern will work on an Intern Project and participate in a presentation of their project. It’s our hope that these activities will inspire and educate our interns.

Responsibilities
The incoming Intern will support the Vice President, Human Resources on a planned Management Retreat. Specific activities include:
  • Research external facilitators
  • Support with agenda design
  • Scope event content and curriculum
  • Coordinate meetings for a relevant planning committee to gather and discuss,
  • Support logistics, such as a travel guide for participants, and other related activities as they arise.
  • Establish Project Management tools to support event preparation in advance of the Retreat.
  • Support on various HR activities as needed, largely desk research.

Qualifications
Our ideal candidate is/has:
  • Working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related field (Human Resources, Administration, Organizational Psychology/Behavior)
  • Superb desk research skills, genuine curiosity in HR and people management
  • Interest non-profit management, experience in the non-profit space is a huge plus
  • Well-organized, can multi-task with ease, adapt to fast-paced workspace, has a customer services orientation
  • Can-do attitude, strong attention to detail, discretion, and a sense of humor
  • Ace communication skills, both verbal and written
