Environmental Protection Specialist - R9

This is an office-centered position*--you must physically report to the duty station stated in this announcement on a regular basis.

Duties

At the entry level of this position, you will:

  • Review environmental impact statements, environmental assessments and other related actions that are moderately complex and uncontroversial and ensure that these considerations are documented to comply with the National Environmental Policy Act.
  • Serve as liaison with other federal agencies prior to, and during, the development of NEPA documents to ensure considerations are documented and that national environmental standards/policies are addressed. Collaborate within the Agency to develop and gather expertise for providing recommendations to other federal agencies.
  • Draft formal comment letters on behalf of the Agency. Contribute to Agency's policies, guidance, trainings, and strategies on environmental review-related resource protection issues.

When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses.  NOTE:  Career ladder promotions are not automatic, and all eligibility and qualifications requirements must be met in order to progress to the next grade level.

You will spend less than 25% of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.
