Duties
This position is located in the Materials Engineering Group, Field Engineering Division, Provo Area Office. The selectee will serve as an engineering technician, performing technical assignments that aligned with and support the professional engineering and architecture staff within the office.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Extract data from a variety of sources.
- Read reports of results and identify inconsistencies in technical data.
- Calculate using standard formulas and assess validity of results.
- Interpret plans and specifications.
- Utilize automated engineering systems, applications, and instrumentation in order to perform technical engineering assignments such as drafting drawings.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. If qualifying based on education, a copy of your unofficial transcripts must be provided with your application.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying:
Specialized Experience for the GS-05: Applicants must have one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing at least two (2) of following: 1) assisting with data collection; 2) assisting with computations; and/or 3) assisting with field testing or inspections.
OR
Education: Successful completion of full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, engineering or industrial technology, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. NOTE: You must submit copies of your college transcripts.
OR
Combination of Education/Experience: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Only education more than the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. To calculate the education percentage, first total your semester hours beyond for first 60 semester hours and divide by 60; then take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 (part-time will be prorated). Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Note: You must submit copies of your college transcripts.
Specialized Experience for the GS-06: Applicants must have one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing at least two (2) of the following: 1) extracting and evaluating data; 2) utilizing instruments for data collection; and/or 3) inspecting or testing material typically used in construction.
OR
Education: Successful completion of at least 1 full year {18 semester hours) of graduate level education leading to a master's degree in an appropriate field of engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science or mathematics. NOTE: You must submit copies of your college transcripts.
OR
Combination of Education/Experience: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To calculate the education percentage, first total your semester hours and divide by 18; then take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 (part-time will be prorated). Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Note: You must submit copies of your college transcripts
