Exact Sciences

Operations Intern

May - August 2023 • Madison, WI

What I liked

I loved the sense of community that Exact Sciences has and their dedication to their goals.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish could have been different was the hours I worked. I worked 12 hour shifts and only worked the weekend and Monday's. I have learned from this that I would prefer a 9 to 5 job Monday-Friday.

Advice

Try and make as many connections as you can and reach out to a wide variety of people in different positions.

Pipeline Marketing Intern

June - August 2022 • Madison, WI

What I liked

I really liked my coworkers and managers. They were also super helpful and supportive and truly cared about developing me and providing me with opportunities to network and forward my career. I was also given a lot of autonomy with my project. The food onsite is also AMAZING and reasonably priced.

What I wish was different

I wish my internship project had been more thought out before it was assigned to me. I also only worked on one project the whole semester, and the lack of project variety was a bit overwhelming and boring at times.

Advice

If you have an opportunity to intern at Exact Sciences, do it! It is so worth it and you make lots of connections.

Operations Improvement Intern

June - August 2021 • Madison, WI

What I liked

The people at this company are wonderful and the Exact Sciences mission is unbeatable. Everyone I encountered was so encouraging and the work is extremely patient centric.

What I wish was different

I wish I knew more about the role responsibilities beforehand. I did not know what my day to day would look like when I accepted my offer, so I don’t know if it necessarily fit with my career goals.

Advice

If you get the chance to work at Exact Sciences, take it! It is an incredible company and everyone I interacted with was so welcoming and wanted to help me explore and navigate my career path.

Inside Sales Intern

May - August 2021 • Madison, WI

What I liked

I loved the company culture and how hands-on I was in the role. I was acting as a full-time sales representative which gave me real experiences and knowledge as a sales professional.

What I wish was different

The one thing that I wish had been different was meeting more people. I was definitely able to network with other reps and leaders, however, the entire sales team was working remotely besides us interns and our supervisors.

Advice

A piece of advice I would share is to ask more questions. I quickly realized the importance of this in order to better understand processes and learn. I wish I would've learned this lesson a bit sooner, but better late than never.

Quality Systems Intern

June - August 2019 • Madison, WI

What I liked

I loved the company atmosphere! Everyone is passionate, hardworking, and very friendly. I thought that Exact was a great place to work. We had a huge company picnic, after-work socials, free lunch-and-learns, "Coffee with Leaders," and I had lots of opportunities to acquire new skills and make connections. I also qualified for a housing stipend, which helped me a bit.

What I wish was different

I wish the company had told me I would be moving about between buildings, so I could've planned accordingly with a car or bike.

Advice

Talk to everyone! Reach out between departments, ask people what they do, and go to Coffee with Leaders! Don't be afraid to thank people for their time as well; the upper leadership is personable, respectable, and very friendly, and will usually take the time to respond to your email or message.

Internal Audit Intern

June - August 2019 • Madison, WI

What I liked

I was incredibly happy with my experience at Exact Sciences. From the start of my internship, I was given a ton of opportunities for growth and development. I learned so many things within the first few weeks and throughout the three months I spent there. My team, other interns, and everyone there was a blast to work with and I can't say enough good things about my experience.

What I wish was different

There truly wasn't much that I wish were different about this internship. There was a great work balance and I never felt like I was just doing busy work for the company.

Advice

Take advantage of the great people you will meet at this organization. The people at Exact Sciences are what make the organization what it is. You can learn so much from the paths that others took to get to where they are, and just about everyone there wants to help you reach your goals.

What I liked

I really enjoyed the ability to work directly with the company's clinical laboratory and learn more about the engineering process in industry, first-hand.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more consistent workload---sometimes there was plenty of meaningful projects to work on, but sometimes not so much.

Advice
